SEODANG, REVIVED TIME, 2019

VIDEO INSTALLATION

FOR THIS VIDEO INSTALLATION, I TRIED TO CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE VIEWERS CAN VISUALIZE AND FREELY EXPERIENCE THE HARMONY BETWEEN THE WESTERN AND EASTERN EDUCATIONAL CULTURE. VIEWERS WILL ENCOUNTER THE DEVELOPMENT OF ART EDUCATION IN THE WEST (THROUGH LITERATURE/TEXTS) WHILE THEY ARE IN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT RESEMBLES THE EAST – KOREA’S TRADITIONAL ACADEMY BUILT DURING COLONIZED KOREA. AT THE SAME TIME, THE BACKGROUND MUSIC – WESTERN MUSIC NOTES PLAYED USING AN EASTERN INSTRUMENT, KAYAGUM – WILL BE CONTINUOUSLY PLAYING. UTILIZING MY POSITION AS AN INTERDISCIPLINARY ARTIST AND BORDER-CROSSER, I TRIED TO REINFORCE THE IDEA THAT HISTORY IS AN INFINITELY UNFOLDING PROCESS OF COLLECTING AND INTERPRETING IDEAS AND PERSPECTIVES ABOUT THE PAST. I HOPED TO EXPLORE MY OWN ARTISTIC PRACTICE – VIDEO WITH COMPUTER SOFTWARE – IN ORDER TO INVITE VIEWERS TO RETHINK ABOUT A HISTORICAL EVENT IN A PUBLIC SPACE.
